My approach

I work with people of different ages and backgrounds with wide-ranging issues.  I provide a confidential, physically comfortable and emotionally conducive space where we can explore your inner world to make sense of the issues you bring to therapy.

My group analytic background means that I take into account the cultural and social experiences that my patients bring, including structural racism and inequality.  I always hold the relationship in mind, how you relate to those around you – to family, friends and colleagues and how you relate to the different parts of yourself.

Oftentimes we behave in ways to protect ourselves from being repeatedly hurt or made to feel vulnerable.  However, there comes a point when these behaviours and ways of relating are no longer useful and can have the opposite effect, resulting in a breakdown in communication or in feeling isolated or misunderstood.

By making links to past experiences, I explore with my patients, individually and in groups, how deep-rooted and often unhelpful patterns have come into existence.  Over the fullness of time these behaviours change so that you can reach your potential.  By potential I don’t mean external success - although this is often a by-product of the work - but rather the potential to be your authentic self; to know yourself.

This being human is a guest house.

Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,

some momentary awareness comes

as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!

Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,

who violently sweep your house

empty of its furniture,

still, treat each guest honourably.

He may be clearing you out

for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,

meet them at the door laughing,

and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,

because each has been sent

as a guide from beyond.
